Police record statement from PVR for assaulting Indian national

NILAI: Police recorded a statement from a policewoman volunteer reserve (PVR), who allegedly assaulted two men after she lodged a police report on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffie said investigations were conducted under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.

"So far, no witnesses or individuals have come forward and the case is still being investigated. We urge any witnesses to come forward to assist with the police investigation," he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, Azrul had urged witnesses of the incident which occurred at a restaurant in Mantin, Nilai here, to come forward to assist in the investigation after the video of the incident went viral on social media Facebook.

The one-minute 37-second video featured a plainclothes policewoman slapping and handcuffed a man believed to be Indian national which was witnessed by several other men.

The video which has since gone viral and shared over 8,000 times also showed the officer, attached to the Seremban district police headquarters, be heard yelling at the men in Punjabi, saying that she had warned them not to create trouble.

As she yells at the two men, she is seen slapping them a total of 10 times.

While others try to calm her down, calling her "aunty", she tells them "I am not anybody's aunty", adding, "I had previously warned you to stay out of trouble!"

According to an English daily, the officer lodged a report claiming that the men had uttered profanities towards her, which prompted her to slap them.

She said she went to the restaurant after two other Indian nationals claimed that one of the men had taken their passports and some money.

The officer's account has been corroborated by statements from sources quoted by another English daily in its report on Tuesday, March 6.

Netizens are urging the police to act against the officer for reacting in the manner that she did.
