Police record statements from Chegu Bard and Bersatu member over gift of car remarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Police confirmed that it has recorded statements from Chegu Bard and another Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) member over allegations that they had insulted His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Shuhaily Mohd Zain said Chegu Bard, whose real name is Badrul Hisham Shaharin and Zahid Mat Arip had their statements recorded under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code at about 11am today.

Shuhaily, in a statement, said police recorded the statements from the duo over remarks about the gift of a car from the King to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a clip that was uploaded on TikTok.

"Investigations were carried out by Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988."

He said as the case is still under investigation, the public should refrain from making any speculation that may interfere with the investigation.

"We urge the public to be wise social media users and not to use the platform in violation of the law.

"Strict action will be taken against any party that acts in any way that may jeopardise public peace and national security."
