Religious teacher sentenced to year's jail for outraging modesty of sister-in-law

KUALA LUMPUR: A 64-year-old religious teacher was sentence to a year's jail by the Ampang magistrate's court for outraging the modesty of his sister-in-law last year.

Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof meted out the sentence after the senior citizen pleaded guilty to the charge against the 38-year-old woman at a childcare centre in Pandan Indah here, at 7.15pm on Jan 23, last year.

The accused was alleged to have forced the woman, who worked as a babysitter at the childcare centre, to hold his penis.

The court ordered for the accused's jail term to run from the date of his arrest on March 16 last year.

In pleading for leniency, the accused asked the court to impose a sentence that could bring him closer to God.

"I am a disabled person and I hope that the court can impose a sentence that can bring me closer to God," he said.

According to the facts, on the day of the incident, the accused had entered the victim's room at the childcare centre where both he and the victim work, saying that he wanted to perform Maghrib prayers.

After entering the room, the accused, who was high on drugs, suddenly grabbed the victim's hand, placed it on his genitals and forced her to masturbate him.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Raihanah Abdul Razak urged for the court to consider that what the accused did was immoral, and the fact that it happened at a childcare centre.
