Police lightning raids net RM10 million narcotics haul [NSTTV]

KAJANG: The federal police Narcotics Investigation Department arrested six people in five raids in Kajang, Gombak and Melaka over two days, netting syabu worth RM10 million.

It is understood that the drugs, weighing 141.27 kg, hidden in tea powder packets, were brought in from Thailand before being distributed in the local market by the syndicate.

Department director, Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh, said the raids, were conducted by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), with the cooperation of the Selangor and Melaka police’s Narcotics Investigation Department, began at 11.20pm and ended at 12.30am on Friday night.

He said the first raid took place in Jalan Bukit Kajang here, where a man in his 30s was arrested. He is believed to be the leader of the syndicate. A subsequent raid at a shop house in Jalan Tun Abdul Aziz, also in Kajang, led to the discovery of 120 packets of drugs weighing 127 kg.

“We also raided a condominium in Taman Sri Gombak, where two men in their 50s, together with a Thai woman in her 30s, were arrested. There, we found 11 packets and four containers of drugs, all syabu, weighing 12.8kg,” he told a press conference at the Kajang district police headquarters, this morning.

The police team then raided a location in Bukit Pulau, Melaka, where a woman was arrested. Checks turned up a pistol, with two magazines and 90 bullets.

“In this raid, we seized three packets of drugs weighing 25kg. The team then raided a location in Klebang, Melaka where a man in his 50s was arrested,” he said.

Mohmad said police believe that the drugs were brought in from a neighbouring country before being distributed here by a local syndicate.

“All the suspects have been remanded until April 5 for further investigation under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Two of the suspects have criminals records,” he said.
