Subang Jaya student steals gun from shooting club, shoots self in college toilet

SUBANG JAYA: A student was found dead yesterday from what is believed to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in one of the toilets of the college where he studied.

The body of the 19-year-old, whose identity is being withheld, was found by a cleaner about 5pm.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Azlin Sadari said the teen was believed to have stolen the pistol he used on himself from a shooting club, of which he was a member, two hours before killing himself.

“The victim was found by the cleaner in a locked cubicle of one of the toilets at the college, with the pistol lying on the floor. The cleaner then reported the incident to a supervisor before a police report was lodged,” he said.

Azlin said the teen had only begun studying at the college 10 months ago.

“His father said he was having some problems with depression over the past year or so. He was a member of the shooting club in Petaling Jaya since 2015.

“Prior to the incident, he was believed to have gone to the club and checked out a Walther pistol, before leaving without returning the firearm,” he said.

Azlin said investigations so far show no elements of foul play involved, and police have classified it as a “sudden death report”.
