'Dancing tourists' from China fined RM25 each

KOTA KINABALU: The two China tourists who danced provocatively in front of the city Mosque here recently, were each fined RM25 by the Magistrate's Court today.

Wan Han, 37, dan Zhang Na, 25, both dance coaches, were compounded according to Section 15 of Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance for disorderly behaviour in public.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus meted out the punishment after both women who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the charge.

They were accused of conducting the offence at the top of the mosque cement wall at 4.30pm on June 23.

On Sunday, the management of the city Mosque closed the vicinity to all foreign tourists, following the 10-second viral video showing the two women in sexy clothing, dancing with the place of worship in the background.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra, said both women were detained at a hotel lobby this morning.

The investigation and arrest were made after a police report was filed by an individual representing a non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Sunday.

"Both women said they did not do it with any ill intentions of making fun of a place of worship but merely did it for entertainment reasons.

"They informed that they are flying back to their originating country tonight (8pm)," he said in a statement here.

Chandra said the China Consul in Kota Kinabalu has also been updated on the arrest and investigation of both women.
