Four nabbed over death of 67-year-old Manjung man

IPOH: Police have arrested four men to facilitate investigations into the death of a senior citizen who was assaulted last week for allegedly stealing oil palm fruits in Lekir, Sitiawan.

Manjung police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hanif Othman said all four, from the same village as the 67-year-old victim Noorbek Siron, were picked up between 6pm and 8pm yesterday.

It was understood that Noorbek died at 8pm Saturday as a result of injuries he sustained in the assault on Wednesday.

"The four suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"We need them for further questioning as we are still determining the actual motive behind the attack," he said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hanif reminded the public not to take matters into their own hands, especially when it involved criminal cases.

"It will be wise if those making citizen's arrest to just hand over the suspect to the police and let the law do the rest," he said.

NSTP reported yesterday that Noorbek’s 65-year-old wife, Siti Rakiah Madu, said that she only found out about her husband's arrest after she went to the police station on Thursday.

She said her husband had left their home on Wednesday but never returned.

At the hospital, she said doctors told her that Noorbek had suffered several broken ribs, a broken hipbone, injuries to his lungs and bleeding in the brain, besides being blinded in the left eye.

She said his condition worsened and he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
