5 suspects identified in shooting of businessman in Skudai

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have identified five suspects believed to be involved in the shooting of a businessman in Skudai on Wednesday.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said they were in the process of locating the suspects, who were all locals aged between 30 and 45.

“We are trying to determine whether they are still in Johor or have gone somewhere else,” said Khalil.

On Wednesday, businessman Pun Chi Wee, 34, was shot in his car that was parked in front of his house in Jalan Timah 9, Skudai, about 6 pm.

The victim was found with gun shot wounds on his head, neck and chest.

Police believed that four shots were fired and two suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a car.

Khalil confirmed that the victim was involved in a secret society which was active in drug trafficking and gambling.

He was speaking to the media after witnessing the handing over of duty ceremony for the Iskandar Puteri police chief between Assistant Commissioner Noor Hashim Mohamad and Assistant Commissioner Dzulkhairi Mukhtar at the Gelang Patah police station here.

Also present was deputy Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din.

On another matter, Khalil said the police was currently on the lookout for six accomplices of the two foreigners who were shot after a chase by the police in Kulai early Friday morning.

“All six are foreigners and are believed to be the accomplices of the two suspects who were shot on Friday. They are believed to be involved in a number of armed robberies and burglary cases in Johor,” said Khalil.

In the incident, the two suspects led police in a two kilometre chase after they were discovered in Taman Manis here by a police patrol team that was conducting Ops Rantau.

The suspects fired several shots at the police team, who fired back in self defence.

The chase ended after the car that the two suspects were in crashed and they were found dead.
