Gym owner shot in Kota Kemuning involved in illegal money lending business: Police

SHAH ALAM: An initial investigation by the police revealed that the gym owner who was shot at close range by gunmen along Jalan Kota Kemuning yesterday is also a loan shark.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib said the police found that the 45-year-old victim was running an unlicensed money lending business.

“However, we are still investigating thoroughly including identifying the motive behind the murder attempt.

“We are looking at every aspect, including the victim’s work background,” he said in a press conference here today.

Several media reported that the gym owner and a technician were badly injured after being shot multiple times by gunmen at close range along Jalan Kota Kemuning at 10.15am yesterday.

The victim, who was driving an SUV, was hurt on his cheek while his 43-year-old Indonesian worker suffered injuries to his abdomen.

The shooting caused the victim’s vehicle to skid and it was stalled by the roadside.

Both victims were reported to be in stable condition and were still getting treatment at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

Baharudin said the police were still looking for a four-wheel drive used by the suspects in the incident.

“Other than scrutinising the CCTV footage around the scene, we’re also urging eyewitnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
