Ampang toddler dies from severe abuse; stepfather on the run

AMPANG: A 3-year-old boy died at the Ampang Hospital here at noon yesterday while being treated for severe injuries, believed to have been inflicted by his stepfather.

The toddler’s injuries included a fractured skull and bruises to the face and body.

“The victim was brought by his mother and stepfather to Ampang Hospital’s emergency department in a state of unconsciousness. He had wounds and bruises on his face, stomach, chest and back.

“Medical staff worked on the boy for 30 minutes before he was pronounced dead.

“The medical officers who attended to him then made a police report,” Ampang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias said when contacted today.

Hamzah said the couple left immediately after delivering the boy to the hospital.

“They are believed to have fled and we are in the process of hunting them down,” he said.

Hamzah added that the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
