Uncle and aunt arrested after toddler dies from suspected abuse

PETALING JAYA: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy is believed to have died from suspected abuse by his uncle and aunt, at the People's Housing Project (PPR) Lembah Subang here, yesterday.

The toddler was reportedly unconscious at the residence before being taken to Shah Alam Hospital by his uncle who is in his twenties.

However, he was confirmed dead during treatment. An examination, as well as post-mortem investigations, revealed signs of injuries believed to be caused by abuse.

It is understood that the child's uncle and aunt, who are a married couple, cared for him while his parents were at work.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, confirmed the incident, and the case has been classified as murder.

"The results of the post-mortem revealed signs of abuse on the child in question.

"As a result, we have made two arrests, a married couple, and they will be remanded today," he toldHarian Metro today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and the Child Act 2001.
