City police to offer discount on traffic summonses at policing programmes

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are planning to offer 50 per cent discount off summonses to road users during high-profile policing programmes around the city.

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said he hoped the discount would attract more people to attend the programmes.

He said the offer was also a way for the public to get to know the police and relay information on any criminal activities in Kuala Lumpur.

"We organise such programmes so that we can meet with the public. When there are many people are present, the police can give out a lot of information on crime and security," he said after visiting the Sogo Shopping Complex here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mazlan revealed that 135 people have been arrested for snatch thefts from January to October this year.

"Most number of cases happened in Dang Wangi, accounting to more than 60 per cent (of the total snatch theft cases) this year. Other areas include Bukit Bintang and Chow Kit but are still under control," he said. --Bernama
