Perak leadership: MACC likely to quiz again six Perak assemblymen

IPOH: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) did not rule out that it will quiz the six Perak assemblymen again over the alleged bid to depose Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

State MACC director Datuk Zainul Darus said the commission will likely call up Faizal, who is also the Perak Pakatan Harapan chairman, if there is a need to have his statement recorded to facilitate investigation into the case.

Apart from State Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad and the five other assemblymen, Zainul said MACC have yet to summon anyone else in its probe over the alleged effort to out Faizal from his post.

“We are in the process of going through and deliberating the statements that have been recorded for the case.

“If there is a need, we will call him (Faizal) to have his statement recorded.

“At the moment, we have yet to call in anyone else to have their statement records over the case and we will look into it if there is a need to call up again the six state assemblyman,” he said, adding that investigation into the case is still on-going.

Speaking at the launching of state-level International Anti-Corruption Day celebration and walkabout programme here today, Zainul pledged that the Perak MACC is exhausting all avenues to complete its investigation into the case immediately.

Saarani, who is also the assemblyman for Kota Tampan, was called up to have his statement recorded over the effort to remove Faizal as the Menteri Besar at the Perak MACC headquarters here on Thursday.

He was summoned by MACC after revealing that he had witnessed the statutory declarations of the five Umno assemblymen that they were approached by a Perak state executive councillor over the plot to depose Faizal.

The five assemblymen were also called up by the MACC to have their statements recorded.

They are Rungkup state assemblyman, Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya, Datuk Sham Mat Sahat (Alor Pongsu), Khairul Shahril Mohamed (Bota), Maslin Sham Razman (Bukit Chandan) and Dr Jurij Jalaluddin (Lubuk Merbau).

It is learnt that MACC have also quizzed State Education, Technology, Science and Environment Committee chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, who is linked to alleged movement against the Perak Menteri Besar.

On a separate matter, Zainul said 200 volunteers from several non-governmental organisations took part in the walkabout programme this morning.

He said the participants went to several areas in the city to distribute brochures to educate the public on the negative impact of corruption towards the nation building.
