Kedah man commits suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning in car

KUBANG PASU: A man was found dead in his car which was parked in the middle of an oil palm plantation in Changlun, near here, last night.

He is believed to have committed suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning.

Officers at the Changlun police station were alerted to the situation at 7.23pm by an anonymous caller who said they suspected that the man had died.

Police rushed to the scene and found that the man, who was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, had indeed passed away.

A check of the car found that one end of a rubber hose, which was connected to the exhaust pipe, was poking into the cabin of the vehicle.

“It is believed that the engine was left running and smoke from the exhaust pipe entered the cabin of the car, causing the man to die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

“Our initial investigation found no indication of foul play,” said Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim.

He added that the body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) Alor Star for a post-mortem; and that the case has been classified as “sudden death”.
