KUANTAN: Police believed they have identified at least five of the men involved in a fight at the east-bound Gambang Rest and Recreational (R&R) area yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali, in confirming this, said arrests will be made soon.
"Our initial investigation revealed that there was a misunderstanding between a R&R staff and an express bus driver leading to the fight. We have received reports from both parties involved in the incident." he said.
Mohamad Noor added that the fight was not racially motivated as claimed by netizens.
He added that the case is being investigated under Seksyen 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Based on a one minute and 48 seconds video that has gone viral today, the incident happened about 1.30am. It showed a group of men arguing with a man, believed to be the express bus driver before attacking him.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the concessionaire for the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), Anih Berhad was also investigating the incident and promised to take disciplinary action against the staff concerned if found guilty.
