Two kidnappers killed in shootout with police in Cheras

KAJANG: Two foreign men suspected of involvement in a series of kidnappings in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were shot dead in a gunfight with police at Taman Mudun, Cheras, early today.

The 1.50am shootout was triggered when a team of police officers from the KL contingent ambushed a house believed to be harbouring a kidnap victim.

It is understood that when the two suspects realised they were surrounded, they opened fire.

“Police returned fire, killing both suspects.

“Their (full) identities are still being ascertained. There were no documents on the suspects, but initial investigation showed that the two are foreigners,” said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof.

Following the gunfight, police found a Bangladeshi man, in his 30s, who had been kidnapped and held captive in the house pending ransom negotiations.

Dzaffir said the man had been abducted on Feb 8 in Sentul.

“Police also recovered a 9mm pistol and a machete from the scene.

“Based on initial information gathered, one of the deceased is believed to be the mastermind behind a series of kidnappings, mostly of foreigners, in (KL and Selangor),” he added.

Dzaffir said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for abduction.
