Police recover five bullet casings at Changlun shootout scene

ALOR STAR: Police have recovered five bullet casings at the shootout scene in Bukit Kechik, Napoh near Changlun which ended with a suspected arm smuggler getting killed yesterday.

Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said three of the bullet casings were fired by the police team while the remaining two belonged to the suspect's semi-automatic firearm.

"The bullet casings were recovered by the Forensic team from the state police headquaters while investigating the scene yesterday.

"The Proton Saga car driven by the suspect has been impounded for further investigation," he said when contacted today.

Fisol added that the suspect's remain have been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-morterm.

"We are still investigating the suspect's possible accomplices in the firearm and ammunition smuggling activity.

"The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearm Act 1960," he said.

In the 5.30pm incident yesterday, a special team Op Laras team from the state headquarters shot dead the 57-year-old suspect in a gunfight when he tried to escape from the police who ordered him to pull over.

The suspect, who was behind the wheel of a Proton Saga was shot dead after he opened fire at the police team.

It was reported that police later found a 9mm pistol, a 38mm pistol, 100 rounds of 9mm bullet, 100 rounds of 38mm bullets and assault rifle bullets in the car.

Background check showed that the man had four previous records related to drugs and a counterfeit firearm offences.
