Penang diesel smuggling syndicate busted [NSTTV]

JURU: The Penang division of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has crippled a diesel smuggling syndicate based at a store here earlier today.

After receiving a tip-off, KPDNHEP officers raided the store during the wee hours and found the fuel being transferred to a tanker.

State KPDNHEP deputy director Sapiah Mohd Nor said they had seized two tankers, three skid tankers and about 450,000 litres of diesel and detained two drivers aged 29 and 45.

“This is subsidised diesel for agricultural purposes,” she said.

“However, the syndicate members are supplying it to industry players.

“They transfer it to the tankers using a hose before distributing it to their customers from the industry.”

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control Of Supplies Act, which carries a fine of RM100,000 or two years jail upon conviction.
