Dang Wangi police: 'Yamcik', where are you?

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a man, nicknamed 'Yamcik', to assist investigations into several snatch theft cases in the city.

Dang Wangi acting police chief Superintendent Rudy Abdullah said the man's name popped up after a woman and a man were picked up in Selangor on Monday over suspicion of purchasing and selling stolen mobile phones.

He said in the first raid, police arrested a woman at a house in Taman Mawar, Puchong and seized two Vivo mobile phones from her.

In the second raid, he said police detained a man at a construction site in Petaling and seized a Meizu mobile phone from him.

“The raids were held in relation to a snatch theft incident at Jalan Sultan Hishammuddin, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 22 involving a woman in her 50s.

“In the 12.20am incident, the victim was waiting for a e-hailing driver to pick her up by the roadside near Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) station when suddenly a motorcyclist came from behind and snatched away her phone,” he said in a statement.

Rudy said investigations found the woman, who was arrested in Puchong, had bought the phone from 'Yamcik' for RM400 a few months ago while the man arrested in Petaling admitted to selling about 10 mobile phones and shared the profits with 'Yamcik'.

Both suspects, aged between 16 and 30, have been remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 392 of the Penal Code.

“Anyone with information can contact the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 03-2600 2222 or any nearest police station,” he said. -- BERNAMA
