KUALA LUMPUR: A video clip of a woman severely abusing a baby girl has gone viral on social media and horrified Malaysian netizens.
The extremely violent 1-minute-and-36-second footage, believed to have been shot in Malaysia, has even attracted the attention of the police.
In a statement issued here last night, Inspector-General of Police Secretariat corporate communications head Datuk Asmawati Ahmad urged anyone with information on the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.
She said that so far, no police report has been lodged on the incident.
The harrowing video clip shows a woman beating, slapping and heavily pounding on a baby girl as she changes her diaper and clothes.
The child, thought to be about a year old, shrieks throughout the ordeal, which takes place on an unmade bed in a dingy room.
The violence escalates to the point where the woman attempts to strangle the baby by swinging it heavily by the neck using its own shirt.
The entire incident is recorded by an individual who is also in the room, but makes no attempt to intervene.
