MACC lodges police report over fake tweet using Latheefa's name

PUTRAJAYA: The graft busters have lodged a police report over a fake tweet using the name of newly appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Latheefa Koya.

The circulated screenshot of the fake twitter message purportedly by Latheefa claimed that haj pilgrims sponsored by 1Malaysia Development Bhd between 2011 and 2018 should give back the money within 30 days or action would be taken again them.

The commission said the message was a fake and made viral by irresponsible quarters aimed to tarnish its image and trigger uneasiness among the people.

β€œIn this regard, the MACC has lodged a police report at the Putrajaya police headquarters on Monday. This is something that the MACC cannot take lightly as it can cause panic and uneasiness among the society,” it said in a statement today.

The commission also urged the public to refrain from spreading the fake tweet and called on the police as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take action so that such things would not recur.

Latheefa tweeted her denial of posting such a message on Sunday, saying it was a fake.
