'Arrogant' Grab driver allegedly punches elderly woman

KUALA LUMPUR: A male Grab driver has been suspended pending investigations after an allegation was made that he had punched an elderly lady.

A Twitter user shared that the driver hit her aunt and called on Grab Malaysia to suspend the driver.

Grab Malaysia replied to the tweet, saying that their team was investigating the case and the driver has been suspended from driving with them.

Earlier, another Twitter user, said to be the daughter of the elderly lady posted a screenshot of the ride her mother was supposed to have taken with the driver.

She informed that her 63 year old mother had wanted to take a Grab ride to visit her father at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Upon entering the vehicle, she said her mother asked the driver a few questions to confirm she was getting into the right car.

The driver allegedly did not answer the questions and subsequently "flipped out" afterwhich he replied, "tengok number plate, tengok number plate." (Look at the license plate.)

She said her mother then told the driver that she was merely asking so why was he being very arrogant.

The elderly lady then opened the car door to get out and the driver allegedly made rude remarks pertaining to the lady being old.

The lady then told the driver that he was not that young as he too had white hair.

The elderly lady's daughter then claimed that the driver got out of the car, went to her mother, spat near her face and punched her jaw. A guard was said to have approached them at this point and she claimed the driver panicked and ran away.

To prove her mother was not lying, she posted a photo of declaration letter signed by a medical officer which states, "alleged assaulted, sustained soft tissue injury."

Grab Malaysia also replied to the string of tweets, saying they have supplied all necessary information to the police for investigation.
