Woman arrested for strangling baby, stabbing baby's mum

PUCHONG: A woman has been arrested for allegedly strangling a three-week-old baby and stabbing the baby’s mother at the back of her head with a screwdriver in an incident at an apartment in Batu Caves last week.

The baby was pronounced dead at 4.30am two days ago, after six days fighting for her life at Selayang Hospital, while her mother is still in a coma.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the police received information on the matter at 7am from one of the victims’ family members.

“In the incident, the 30-year-old victim was seriously injured after being stabbed at the back of her head with a screwdriver while her baby was strangled.

“Based on our investigation, we have arrested the main suspect, a 25-year-old woman, and her 19-year-old maid on the day of the incident,” he said when met today.

He added that the main suspect’s 27-year-old husband was also arrested to facilitate investigation.

Fadzil said further investigation revealed that the main suspect attacked the victim for allegedly having an affair with her husband and giving birth to his child.

Police also found the screwdriver used in the attack at the scene.

“The two female suspects were remanded for four days from Nov 15 to 19, before it was extended to Nov 23.

“The suspect’s husband is remanded for seven days from Nov 17 to Nov 23 and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” Fadzil concluded.
