Burglary at Paul Yong's home a genuine house break-in, say Perak police

IPOH: Police today said the burglary at Perak state executive councillor (exco) Paul Yong Choo Kiong's home last month was a genuine house break-in case.

Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain said investigations so far revealed that such was the case and police could not ascertained if the incident was related to Yong’s rape case.

“This one is genuine house break-in and I don’t know whether it is related to his rape trial.

“The room (his maid’s room) only has a bed. The downstairs' room is for his maid, it is not that the person (the burglar) refused to touch anything but there was nothing (in the room) to be touched,” he said.

Razarudin said this in a press conference after handing over school aid to police personnel's children at Mydin Mall in Meru here.

He explained that police had retrieved several fingerprints in the house which were still being analysed to identify the culprit.

“Should there be a positive outcome, we will act accordingly. To date, we are still collecting information and gathering intelligence (on the case),” he said.

On Dec 4, Yong, in a statement, said his house in Meru Raya was burgled when he was away in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 22 to Dec 1. Two safe boxes and several documents, he added, were stolen.

He said all the bedrooms in the house had been ransacked except for the room of his former Indonesian maid, leading him to suspect that the culprit was familiar with his home's layout.

On August 23, Yong, claimed trial to the charge of raping an Indonesian maid at a house in Meru Raya here on July 7, between 8.15pm to 9.15pm.

The trial is set for February 10 to 14 next year.
