BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained four men near the Sungai Buloh R&R area today in connection with a robbery at a convenience store near here on New Year's Day.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Asisten Komisioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said in the 11.30am incident on Wednesday, two of the robbers had entered the premises on the pretext of buying drinks, while another two stood watch outside.
“One of them took out a machete from his bag and asked the cashier to take out all the money. They then fled on motorcycles.”
Nik Ros Azhan said based on information received from the suspects, police raided three locations in the state, and found a machete, several smartphones and motorcycles.
"The men admitted to committing robbery in numerous locations since early 2019.
"There were also cases which were not filed. We will bring the detainees to identify the spots once we obtain the remand order," he said in a statement today.
The case was being investigated under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
