DBKL senior officer charged with accepting graft of more than RM1 million

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) civil engineering and urban transportation senior deputy director Sabudin Mohd Salleh was charged with accepting graft of more than RM1 million two years ago.

Sabudin, who arrived at about 9am was calm when he was ushered into the Sessions Court by several Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) officers today.

The 58-year-old faced six counts of receiving RM1.08 million as an inducement for granting several maintenance projects around the city which were under his purview.

Sabudin was alleged to have accepted RM700,000; RM20,000; RM10,000; RM150,000; and RM100,000 twice from four individuals involving maintenance and concrete bridge project in the city.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin asked the court to impose RM150,000 bail with two sureties against the accused.

However, counsel Hamidi Mohd Noh, who represented the accused, pleaded for a minimum bail stating that his client had given his full cooperation to the anti-graft body during the investigation.

“He is a sole breadwinner and suffers from high blood pressure, gout, and high cholesterol,” he said.

Judge Azura Alwi set bail at RM120,000 with two sureties and ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court.

She fixed Feb 17 for hearing.
