Contraband liquor meant for CNY seized in raid

KLUANG: A total of 15,820 bottles of contraband liquor valued at RM344,000 were seized in a raid at about 11.40pm yesterday.

General Operations Force’s (PGA) 5th Battalion Commanding Officer, Superintendent Jaafar Kaimi said based on information received, the raiding team comprising two officers and seven personnel from PGA’s Central Brigade Task Force raided a store at Jalan Mega in Taman Perindustrian Nusa Cemerlang where the contraband was believed to have been stored.

He said they also nabbed four Bangladeshis and Pakistanis who were in the midst of loading boxes believed to contain bottles of liquor.

“Further investigation revealed that the premises were used as a smuggling and distribution centre meant for the Johor market for the upcoming Chinese New Year festive period.

"A total of 15,820 bottles of alcohol worth about RM344,000 were seized while the men were detained for further investigation," he said in a statement today.

The case will be investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 for evading duty on goods, and all those detained and liquor seized would be handed over to the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters for further action.
