Almost 200 detained in Penang for disobeying MCO

GEORGE TOWN: In just 12 days into the Movement Control Order (MCO), police have detained almost 200 people who were caught disobeying the restriction.

Those arrested were commonly found hanging out in public places or jogging in public parks.

Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said that as of noon today, a total of 175 people has been nabbed.

He said 117 people were arrested in the last two days alone - two were detained at northeast district, 10 from the southwest district, 35 at Seberang Perai Utara district, and one from Seberang Perai Selatan district.

A total of 69 people, including a woman, were caught at Seberang Perai Tengah district.

Police had carried raids at several hotspots based on a tip-off from the public yesterday evening.
