Rosmah's lawyer accuses MACC officer of incompetence

KUALA LUMPUR: An Investigating Officer (IO) from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was today accused of incompetence over her handling of investigations into the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for rural schools in Sarawak.

Lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader did not mince his words when he went on the offensive against Noornabilah Mohd Aziman after she continuously answered his questions during cross examination by claiming ignorance of the things he had asked.

The 30-year old officer's response eventually got to Akberdin and he finally snapped at her by questioning her competency in handling the investigations.

"I am sorry to say this but you are a very passive IO. It shows you were very incompetent.

"You don't seem to know anything. You are not contributing anything to this case," he said.

Noornabilah, who was taking the stand for the second day to be cross examined by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's lawyer, did not respond to the humiliating remarks against her.

Akberdin's patience with Noornabilah was again pushed to the limits today as she again kept evading from answering his questions by repeatedly saying she could not remember or did not know whenever he asked her about other individuals apart from Rosmah who were involved in the case.

Noornabilah has continuously maintained that she did not know about developments involving others as she was only involved in the investigations against Rosmah.

Yesterday, Akberdin had accused the MACC of malicious prosecution and said the graft busters were only interested in charging Rosmah even though others had committed wrongdoings.

He claimed the MACC had embarked on a witch hunt against his client with the ill intention of maligning and "fixing her up".

Akberdin was almost reduced to pulling his hair in despair yesterday when Noornabilah kept asking him to repeat his questions despite his best attempts to make himself clear.

At some points, he was forced to repeat his questions three to four times when Noornabilah kept saying "boleh ulang soalan" (please repeat the question), "saya tak ingat" (I cannot remember) or "saya tak tahu" (I don't know) to everything he asked.

At the start of proceedings today, High court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan urged Noornabilah to pay attention to Akberdin's questions.

"You were asking him to repeat his questions many times yesterday.

"You are lucky he is a very patient man... Please listen carefully and pay attention to what he is asking," he said, prompting the witness to nod her head in acknowledgement.

Noornabilah is the final prosecution witness who is taking the stand in the case against Rosmah.

Rosmah is on trial for soliciting RM187.5 million and two counts of receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsuddin.

The bribes were allegedly received as a reward for helping Jepak Holdings secure the project for 369 schools in Sarawak.

Rosmah was accused of committing the offences between January 2016 and Sept 2017.

The trial before High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan continues.
