KUALA LUMPUR: In an effort to reduce the high number of drivers beating red lights nationwide, the police have launched "Operation Red Light".
The operation will run from now until Dec 31, said Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Azisman Alias.
According to police statistics, last year, 69,267 summonses were issued to road users for beating the red light, Bernama reported.
As for 2020, Azisman said that 52,170 summonses were issued from January to November, involving 26,764 motorcycles, cars (20,751), lorries (2,208) and other vehicles (2,447).
