Man arrested for killing senior citizen in fight

KULAI: A man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a senior citizen to death in a fight at a homestay in Taman Kota Kulai here on Sunday.

District police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested while sitting on the five foot way of a shophouse near the homestay.

"When we arrested the suspect, we also found a knife that was believed to have been used to stab the victim," he said in a statement.

Tok said police received an emergency call regarding a fight at the homestay about 3.55pm.

"A team was rushed to the scene and found the victim on the ground with several wounds. Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had run amok and started to stab the 78-year-old victim. The cause of the incident is still being investigated," he said.

He said a team from the state forensics unit were also present at the scene and initial checks found several stab wounds to the victim's abdomen.

"The suspect had a previous record for criminal and drug related offences. He was also intoxicated at the time," said Tok, adding that the police also seized the homestay's close circuit television recording to help in the investigation.

He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until March 14 and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
