Cops probe politician over claims of molest by friend's wife

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are probing a politician with a "Datuk" title for allegedly outraging the modesty of a businesswoman last year.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammed Farouk Eshak said the 48-year-old woman claimed that the incident took place in July or August last year at her residence in Taman Bukit Melawati.

"On that day, the suspect, who is a close friend of the victim's husband, visited and stayed overnight at the victim's house together with his wife.

"Next day early morning, when the victim was sleeping in the living room on the first floor, she woke up and found someone kissing and groping her breast.

"Once the man noticed that the victim had awakened, he immediately went downstairs and left with his wife for home," he said in a statement today.

Farouk said the victim only filed a police report on the incident on March 16.

"She was afraid to make a police report all this while, as she feared that it would jeopardise their existing relationship.

"The victim was also unsure what to do as the suspect is an influential politician from an east coast state," he said.

He said police have opened an investigation paper under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.

No arrest has been made so far.
