IGP: Cops to summon politicians over 'Dubai Move'

KUALA LUMPUR: Police may call several politicians and social media influencers for questioning over the alleged "Dubai Move" to topple the government.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said an investigation paper had been opened after 43 reports were received over the matter.

He said among those who could be called to assist investigations are Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, otherwise known as Chegubard; Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, popularly known as Papagomo; and, social media influencer Salim Iskandar.

"An investigation paper was opened based on those (43) reports with the prime suspect being blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.

"He talked about the collapse of the government for more than 10 days. But it is unlikely for us to get him as he is currently in Manchester.

"The gist of it is that this activity could potentially harm the country's parliamentary democracy," said Razarudin.

The case is being investigated under sections 124C and 505B of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Yesterday, the prime minister's senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin lodged a report urging the police to investigate the purported "Dubai Move".

Shamsul had said the Dubai Move was a strategy started by several irresponsible members of parliament and opposition leaders that goes against sections 124B and 124C of the Penal Code.

Other police reports had also been lodged in police stations in Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Kedah, Sabah and Sarawak.

In December, Community Communications Department deputy director Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that opposition leaders and several government MPs had met in Dubai to discuss overthrowing the government.
