Couple nabbed, drugs worth RM75,000 seized

KUALA LUMPUR: A husband and wife were arrested and their drug trafficking operations busted following the seizure of some 30kg drugs worth RM75,375 in a raid on Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the operation unfolded when police nabbed a male suspect in his late 30s believed to be involved in drug dealing activities in the Klang Valley and Selangor.

"The Sentul Narcotics Crime Investigation Department arrested the suspect at a playground in Segambut here following a tip-off at 4.30pm on April 22.

"Following the suspect's arrest, the team inspected a Proton Exora vehicle that was parked nearby and found cannabis weighing at 2.54kg and RM200 cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

"The suspect then took the team to an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara near here where checks were conducted. Police found two types of drugs, cannabis (25.61 kg) and heroin (0.406 kg)," he said.

Following the illegal substance discovery, Azmi said police arrested the suspect's wife who is in her 20s for further investigation.

"Based on the urine test conducted, the man tested negative for drugs while his wife was found positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

"Further checks also found the man had three previous criminal records for drugs and criminal offences while the wife had no prior criminal record.

"Both suspects were remanded for seven days from April 23 to April 29," he said.

Azmi said the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty if the couple is found guilty.

He said the couple were believed to have been trafficking drugs for the last seven months, and the seized cannabis could be used for 61,380 addicts; and the heroin by 813 addicts.

He added that the investigation was still ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate as well as the source of the contraband supply.

"Following the arrest and seizure of drugs, police had managed to bust their drug dealing activities in the Klang Valley and Selangor," he said.
