Man charged with trafficking in syabu

KOTA KINABALU: A man was charged at the magistrate's court here with trafficking in 100.34 grams of syabu.

Azrul Adjeran, 35, had allegedly trafficked in the syabu in front of a security guard hut in Inanam at 5.45pm on May 4.

However, no plea was recorded from Azrul who was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The offence is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act, which provides for the death sentence or life imprisonment and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes, if convicted.

The court fixed June 16 to re-mention the case. Today it was held virtually before magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles while the accused was at the police lockup in Kepayan.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court, two men were charged with committing robbery.

Joseph Gude, 26, and Muhammad Sobrie Muali, 32, were alleged to have robbed Laina Houpin of RM2,200, a gold necklace, and a pair of gold earrings on April 9 at 7.30pm along the road in front of Klinik Pergigian La Dentista in Cyber City, near here.

Joseph pleaded guilty to the charge while Muhammad pleaded not guilty.

Judge Elsie Primus fixed June 8 for sentencing for Joseph and pre-trial case management for Muhammad.
