Myanmar man tosses three kids off MRR2, jumps soon after

KUALA LUMPUR: A girl and her brother died, while another child is in critical condition after they were thrown off the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) at a height of 20 metres near the Desa Jaya traffic lights this morning.

Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said the 38-year-old man was also found dead as he jumped off after tossing the three children.

The sole surviving victim, believed to be a five-year-old boy, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Selayang Hospital.

Beh said the boy sustained internal abdominal injuries and broke his left rib in the incident, adding that he is currently being treated at intensive care unit (ICU).

Elaborating on the case, he said police received a report over the incident at 5.50am today.

"Initial investigation showed that three kids, an eight-year-old girl, a boy who is around six to seven-years-old and a five-year-old boy, all from Myanmar, were thrown off from the MRR2 by a 38-year-old man, who is also from Myanmar.

"The man was said to have jumped off the MRR2 after he had thrown the three kids down the 20m high road. We believe the man was the father to the kids," he said in a statement today.

Beh said based on statement given by a 36-year-old witness, the man was seen holding one child with his left hand, another with his right hand and carried another on piggyback before the incident.

"The witness approached the man but he suddenly tossed the kids off the MRR2 before jumping off himself. All the victims were found near the Desa Jaya traffic light.

"The man and two kids, a girl and a boy, were killed on the spot while another boy who landed on the grass near the road shoulder was rushed to the Selayang Hospital.

"Further examination by medical officers showed that he had broken his left rib and sustained internal abdominal injuries. He is currently at the ICU," he said.

He said all the bodies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensics unit for post-mortem.

He added that police found two United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards of the man and the eight-year-old girl at the scene.

He urged those with information on the case to contact investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Baldev Singh Gurdial Singh at 012-4806062 or the Sentul operation centre at 03-40482222.
