KUALA LUMPUR: The husband-and-wife couple detained over the killing of a cook in Pandan Indah, here, last Thursday, allegedly committed the crime using a remote-controlled homemade explosive device.
A source said at the time of the incident, the couple was near the restaurant where the victim worked.
"The remote control was pressed as soon as they saw the victim holding the package that was placed on his car.
"Their actions were recorded on a closed-circuit camera (CCTV). They fled to Kedah after throwing away their clothes and the remote control to avoid suspicion.
"The 30-year-old husband made the explosive device at their home in Serdang, Kedah, together with his wife," a source said.
The source also said bomb-making materials were found at the couple's home.
"The couple's car that allegedly used in the incident was also confiscated for further investigation," he said.
The source said the husband was angry at the victim for having an affair with his wife, and the wife wanted retribution for being taken advantage of.
Sources said the victim fled to Ampang last year after the male suspect discovered the relationship with his wife.
The source said the couple tracked down the victim when he deactivated restrictions on his Facebook account and planned to kill him.
It is learnt that the male suspect, who works as a ceramic maker, found out how to make bombs through YouTube.
The couple has been remanded for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
On Dec 29, the 28-year-old male victim went to his car at 8.55pm and found a package placed on top of it. The package exploded when he inspected it.
The victim sustained severe injuries to the body and hands and died while being treated at Ampang Hospital.
Police found traces of explosives and shrapnel on the victim's car.
