Cops rescue Indonesian maid chained in flat bathroom

KAJANG: A woman believed to be an Indonesian maid  was rescued when she was found chained in a bathroom of a flat in Taman Tenaga here.

Police believe she was imprisoned by her employer.

A resident of Taman Tenaga, who declined to be identified, said he went to a grocery store at about 9pm last Sunday.

"The grocery store worker then reported hearing a woman scream from the nearby flats and I headed towards it. We followed the sound and identified that it came from a unit on the second floor of the flats.

"Since the flat was locked, we contacted the police. The police came and broke open the door and we found a woman chained and passed out in the bathroom," he said as reported by Harian Metro.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan when contacted confirmed the case.

"We managed to rescue an Indonesian woman who worked as a maid who was chained by a local couple in the house.

"The victim was chained in the bathroom by the couple because they suspected her of stealing jewellery," he said.

The case is being investigated according to Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement.
