Police vow fairness into police brutality case in South Klang IPD

GEORGE TOWN: Police will be fair in its investigation into police brutality in the South Klang district police headquarters recently.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the South Klang district police chief (Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong) had also spoken on the matter.

"As he had said, we will be transparent and fair in our investigation. This is our commitment.

"I have made known my intention to the Selangor police chief," he said when asked to comment on the incident which has since gone viral.

He was here in conjunction with the 76th Marine Police Remembrance celebrations held at the marine police base in Batu Uban here.

A shocking video footage of a suspect being beaten by alleged narcotics police had surfaced and was making the rounds on social media.

The eight-second video clip was shared on the Edisi Siasat Telegram group and quickly went viral at 8am yesterday, amassing over 30,000 views since it was uploaded.

In the viral video, one of two men was seen stepping on the knee of a man believed to be a suspect, while the other was observed whipping the suspect's foot with what appeared to be a cane or rubber hose.

The method is believed to be falanga, a method of foot whipping which inflicts pain by administering a beating on the soles of a person's bare feet.

It has been recognised as a form of torture by the European Court of Human Rights.

Elaborating, Razarudin said when the probe is completed, they would send (the investigation paper) to the Attorney-General's Chambers with recommendations (on the next course of action).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident took place in the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the South Klang district police headquarters at around 10.30am on Aug 2, 2022.

He further disclosed that investigation papers had been initiated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect was charged in the Klang Court on August 8 last year.
