TAWAU: Police have arrested a secondary school teacher on suspicion of raping one of his students yesterday.

The 36-year-old suspect was apprehended near a premises at the Fajar Complex at 9.58pm last night (Thursday).

Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, when contacted, said the arrest of the suspect was made following a report made by the victim, who claimed to have been raped by the suspect.

He said the victim, the eldest of six siblings and a Form 4 student, alleged that she was raped in the teacher's house in a residential area at Batu 8 Jalan Apas between 2.30pm and 4.45pm yesterday (Wednesday).

"At the time of the incident, the suspect asked the victim to perform oral sex before having non-consensual sexual intercourse with her," he said.

Jasmin noted that the initial investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect did not have a romantic relationship but rather a student-teacher relationship.

However, he said the victim admitted that the suspect had asked her to perform oral sex on several occasions when they were alone between August of last year and Oct 18 this year.

Earlier, the suspect was brought to court this morning for a remand order application.

Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin granted a seven-day remand order starting today to assist in the investigation under the Penal Code of Section 376 for rape and Section 377(C) for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent.
