Nearly 30 students in Kelantan caught this year for involvement in drug activities

KOTA BARU: A total of 30 secondary students were arrested by the police since January for their involvement in various drug activities.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the students were nabbed in series of anti-drug operations statewide.

He added the students were from several schools in Kelantan and a majority of them were caught for the possession of drugs.

"Most of them were found to have been involved in drug abuse such as methamphetamine pills.

"A majority of them were from broken families and studying at schools located close to the border," he said.

He added some of the students were also used by drug syndicates.

"The students worked with drug syndicates to sell drugs to other students in their schools.

"This is really worrying to the police as many innocent students have become victims," he added.

To curb this menace among schoolchildren, Zaki said the police were going to work closely with the Education Department.

"We have been holding few discussions with the department to find way to solve this issue.

"We also need cooperation from others parties like parents and NGOs to help us address this problem.

"This is important as we want to put a stop to the drug menace among schoolchildren in the state," he said.
