Police confirm viral MCKK bullying case, investigation underway [NSTTV]

KUALA KANGSAR: Police have confirmed receiving a report over a bullying case involving form four and form five students at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK).

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said that police came across viral messages relating to the incident on Saturday after it was posted on Instagram.

"The bullying took place on Sept 24 at about 10.05pm. In the incident, the victim- a form four student- was beaten up by a form five student.

"The victim was then taken to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital by the school for further treatment. Further checks showed normal physical findings and the victim did not suffer any serious injuries," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt which provides a maximum jail term of one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, if convicted.

He added that the public is warned not to make any statements or comments and baseless speculations related to this viral case.

It is learnt that three form four students were involved in this bullying incident where they were beaten up by five form five students.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Kangsar Malay College (MCKK) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) expressed its regret over the incident involving the school's students.

The association through its Facebook posting said that the action of the bullied student's family spreading the case on social media has a big impact and damages the school's good image as a reputable institution.

The statement said that the PTA was aware that the disciplinary case involving the bullying incident had already been investigated and action had been taken by the school, which is why the PTA had taken a position on the matter; that the decision taken by the school was considered transparent without any interference from any party.

"The stance among other things, is that actions taken by the school need to be respected based on due consideration that has been given to the welfare and goodness of all; besides, the school has complied with all proper procedures in making decisions.

"We are aware of the threats made viral from this case through a letter sent by a group of parents of form four students if the school's current decisions and actions pertaining to the students involved are not changed.

"We condemn the attempted intervention of the parents involved in the management of this school," the statement said.
