Civil servant fined RM4,800 for abusing her position

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant was fined RM4,800 for abusing her position to award a contract to her son's company.

Haslin Abdul Halim, 49, pleaded guilty to one of six charges when she was produced before judge Elesabet Paya Wan at the Sessions Court in Melaka, today.

According to the charge, Haslin was accused of using her position as assistant engineer at the Melaka Tengah Vocational College in Bukit Katil to persuade the college director to approve a request note of RM1,450 to a company owned by her son.

She was accused of committing the offence in Oct 2018 at the college.

The charges were framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, other charges under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 and 417 of the Penal Code had been taken into consideration by the court based on Section 171 of the Penal code.

The court sentenced Haslin to a fine of RM4,800.00 in default of six months imprisonment.

The fine was paid by Haslin on the same day.
