Police to investigate claims of sex-for-hire in Genting Highlands

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have not received any reports on the alleged soliciting of prostitutes at Genting Highlands, as claimed by a social media user in a video recently.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, Bentong police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the allegation made through the video was serious and police will investigate the claims made by the man.

"So far, police have not received any complaints or reports of prostitution activities or soliciting for prostitution at the hilltop resorts. But rest assured, we will investigate these claims," he said when contacted.

Zaiham added that police will not condone or tolerate such illegal activities and services supposedly offered by unscrupulous individuals at Genting Highlands.

"Having said that, we also urge the man in the video to come forward and assist police in the investigation, since he had been approached personally," he said, referring to a 'warning' video posted by Calvin Chan via @CalvinChan96 Tik Tok.

Chan in his post yesterday shared a video of his shocking experience at Genting Highlands where he was suddenly approached by a man who offered him sex services.

"I was at the big gathering area near the big screen, when the guy suddenly said: "hey, do you want or not?".

"Then, I just looked at him and asked him what you mean. He asked me to look down.

"I could see that he was about to hand me a name card. On the card I saw a very sexy lady wearing a sexy bunny costume and next to it were two Malaysian phone numbers printed on the card.

"Before I could say anything, the man went on to say, "we charge by the hour", he said in his video.

Chan goes on to add that he believes there is a demand for such services in Genting HIghlands, explaining why the man brazenly passed the card and offered these services to random people.

He described the suspect as resembling a foreigner wearing a sling bag and holding a stack of cards.

He also expressed concern that people from many foreign countries visit Genting Highlands and suggested that it could be for these services too, shining a bad light on local tourism.
