P-Hailing rider and wife detained over child's death, suspected abuse

KUALA LUMPUR: A p-hailing rider and his wife were detained to assist in an investigation related to the death of their child.

Their child- a six-year-old girl- was found dead in a flat in Bandar Tun Razak on Dec 2, believed to be a result of abuse and neglect.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said that the couple, in their 30s, have been remanded until Dec 13 to aid investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, specifically regarding child neglect.

"The child's father works as a p-hailing rider, while the mother is a homemaker. The couple also has two other children aged three and seven, both in good health, and they have been placed under the care of the Social Welfare Department for temporary custody," he said.

He made these comments to reporters after the opening ceremony of the Setiawangsa police station officiated by Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Seri Aidi Ismail.

Last Saturday, a six-year-old girl was reported to have passed away while receiving treatment at Hospital Tunku Azizah, believed to have been abused and neglected by her guardian in a residential flat in Bandar Tun Razak.

Post-mortem results indicated that the child faced several health issues due to premature birth and passed away due to malnutrition.

Meanwhile, commenting on the 2023 Malaysia Cup final match between Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and Terengganu FC (TFC) tonight, Allaudeen advised supporters of both teams to refrain from causing disturbances before, during, and after the match.

He warned that strict action would be taken against any supporters who incite disturbances tonight.
