Federal police CID director conducts surprise visit to Zayn Rayyan crime scene

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain today made a surprise visit to Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai where six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's body was found.

It is believed that Shuhaily visited the crime scene at about 1.20pm to see the location, surroundings and circumstances involving the ongoing case.

Dressed casually, Shuhaily arrived at the scene on a superbike and was greeted by several CID investigators, who later briefed him on the case developments.

He was also seen walking into the apartment compound and then the creek area where Zayn Rayyan's body was found on Dec 6 at 10pm before leaving the scene more than an hour later.

He was accompanied by officers from the investigation team who were seen stopping at a few junctures, briefing him on the sequence of events and development involving the unresolved case.

When asked for case updates, Shuhaily refused to make any comments.

"The investigation is still in progress, and any statements about it would come from the Selangor police chief," he briefly told reporters at the scene before leaving.

On the 14th day of the autistic boy's murder investigation, police have yet to find a breakthrough in the case despite attempting various efforts, including DNA sampling, reenactment and obtaining dashcam recordings from around the scene.

It was reported that Zayn Rayyan was missing from his Block R apartment on Dec 5 after his mother fetched him back from school at 12.30pm.

The residents immediately mounted a search, and a missing persons report was also lodged within hours.

The next day at 10pm, his body was discovered near a creek 200 metres from his apartment, a location police previously searched twice.

A post-mortem carried out at Sungai Buloh Hospital showed Zayn Rayyan did not die of natural causes but as a result of strangulation.
