Under the seat, in the trunk: 10 bullets and a homemade 'Bakakuk' shotgun stash uncovered

PAPAR: Police have arrested a man for possessing a homemade gun, locally known as "bakakuk."

The incident unfolded at 1.30pm yesterday, when vigilant policemen on patrol noticed two men in a car acting suspiciously on Jalan Pan Borneo, Kampung Tanaki, Kawang.

District police chief Superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakk shared that upon stopping the vehicle for inspection, one of the suspects made a hasty escape.

"Following inspection inside the suspect's car, a bag was found under the front passenger seat containing 10 bullets.

"Further inspection found a shotgun barrel of the bakakuk type in the rear of the car's trunk," he said in a statement today.

Kamaruddin said a 41-year-old local man was arrested, and the seized items were taken to the Papar district police headquarters for further investigation.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.
