'Biggest challenge investigators face is we have not found primary crime scene'

KUALA LUMPUR: A 29-year-old man, who was reported missing from an apartment building near where Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin had lived is not linked to his murder case.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the murder has nothing to do with the mentally disabled man who was reported missing by his family on Dec 12.

"Both are two separate cases and are unrelated to each other," he said, putting an end to rumours which was spread on social media such as TikTok.

On the development of Zayn Rayyan's murder case, Hussein said police are facing challenges in investigations as they have minimal leads to work on.

"The police have taken 225 statements from residents, parents, neighbours and when we have gone through the details many times but we are still unable to find a proper lead in his murder investigation.

"We also gathered 248 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples and 246 of those tests results found no matches, while another test results are underway.

"Even the dashcam videos and closed-circuit television recordings that we enhanced have been repeatedly reviewed for any possible clue, but that too, is of less use.

"The biggest challenge investigators face in solving the case is that we have yet to find the primary crime scene," he said reassuring public that police are still on the case to find the murderer.

The Internet was abuzz with videos of a man identified as Mohammad Shaharuddin, 29, from Jengka, Pahang who was missing and allegedly linked to Zayn Rayyan's case.

The man went missing on Dec 12 from his sister's house in Apartment Harmoni, which is located about 600m away from Zayn Rayyan's apartment.

The body of Zayn Rayyan, 6, was found a day after he went missing in Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai.

His body was found in a river located about 200m from his home at about 10pm on Dec 6. Police classiffied the case as murder when preliminary findings of a post-mortem indicated ligature marks on the autistic boy's neck and body.
