IGP: Police tracing 'real author' of article claiming PN tried to bribe King

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal police are trying to trace the actual author of an article that claimed Perikatan Nasional had tried to bribe Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah into allowing the government to be toppled.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the focus of investigations right now was to ascertain the identity of the author of the online portal article.

Speaking to reporters, he also said several people who have been identified would also be called in to assist investigations.

On Friday, Razarudin said police had so far received four reports over the matter.

He had said investigations were being conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Jan 10, Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli, the political secretary to opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, had called for police to investigate the defamatory claims that RM1 billion was offered to the King to bring down the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

A day later, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had hit out at the allegations, saying they were baseless and outrageous.
