OKU woman beaten to death, scalded with hot iron; 7 suspects arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating the murder of a mentally-challenged 20-year-old woman who was beaten to death with a long piece of wood and scalded with a hot iron repeatedly.

Her death was reported to police on Jan 21 by her sister, when the officer on duty at the Serdang police headquarters C4i operations room received a MERS 999 distress call at around 12.12pm. She directed police to a residential address in Serdang Raya 1, Seri Kembangan where the murder took place.

In a statement earlier, Serdang police chief ACP A.A. Anbalagan said that police had arrested seven suspects believed to be involved in the murder.

"At 4pm on Jan 21, the Serdang police Criminal Investigation Department arrested seven suspects believed to be involved in the murder.

"Initial investigations revealed that the motive behind the brutal killing of the OKU (persons with disability) card holder allegedly stems from an altercation in which the deceased scolded and pinched the child of one of the suspects who has been identified as B4," it said.

According to the statement, the group of suspects comprises four Chinese males and three Chinese females, aged between 25 to 79 years. All suspects reside in the Klang Valley.

Suspect B4 along with three others; B1, B2, B3, have been remanded for seven days from Jan 22 to 28 under Section 302 of the Penal Code. While suspects B5, B6, and B7, aged between 25-79 years, have been granted police bail.

"The deceased suffered fatal injuries, having been assaulted with a long piece of wood and subjected to repeated ironing. The exact cause of death is pending determination, with a post-mortem currently underway at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang," the statement further added.
